Embrace risk and grasp Digital

We’re delighted to have staged 2017’s first educational event for EVCOM – the association for the live and visual communication industry. Over 80 delegates attended EVCOMFerence Bitesize, Innovation in Communication, at The Brewery on 11 January, where a range of speakers and topics provided insights and ideas on how to use technology and clear strategic thinking to work smarter against an unpredictable outlook for 2017.

Caspar Berry’s keynote used poker to illustrate why we need to embrace managed risks to achieve objectives in our business lives, and why failure is an essential part of success. Adam Waters lookahead to 2017 suggested comms professionals probably don’t need Twitter #whatnotwitter! and millennials are more diverse than everybody else thinks.  Callum Gill’s insight into creative leadership communications proved the perfect antidote to a grey afternoon in January.

The session was rounded off with the three speakers being joined by Tereza Urbankova of Amec Foster Wheeler for a panel session on practical action. As Head of Internal Communications, Corporate Affairs, Tereza has overseen new online solutions before, during and beyond a major acquisition and shared first-hand the reality of bringing digital to the workplace.

RLC Managing Director Rachel Ley, who is Head of EVCOM’s Professional Development Committee said: “It was hugely refreshing to gain such relevant perspectives from outside of our immediate industry sphere. I’d like to thank all of the speakers for stimulating our thinking towards embracing change and grabbing future opportunities.”

The event prompted a storm of social media comment from attending delegates – who described the event as inspirational, engaging, insightful and thought-provoking.

Steve Garvey, EVCOM CEO, added: “EVCOMference Bitesize relaunched the Association’s conference in a new, accessible format for live event, film and digital c
